Hydrohammer® IQ-series and S-series: a legacy of excellence

Hydrohammer®: a legacy of excellence

Since the early eighties, IQIP’s hydraulic impact hammers have been synonymous with reliability, delivering exceptional results in sectors such as onshore construction, oil & gas, and offshore wind.

S-series: decades of proven piling technology excellence
The IQIP Hydrohammer® S-series continues this legacy with cutting-edge engineering and adaptability to extreme environments.

  • The S-series adapts seamlessly to different pile requirements.
  • Tailored sleeves ensure perfect tube pile alignment and impact
  • Sheet legs enable the driving of profiles such as single and double sheet piles, H-beams, and combi walls

IQ-series: intelligent power for grand-scale projects
Evolving from the world-renowned S-series, IQ-series hydrohammers are engineered for the future of intelligent pile driving. Designed to tackle the increasing scale of wind turbines and renewable energy production, the IQ-series delivers unmatched performance:

  • Recently unleashed: IQ8, the strongest hydraulic impact hammer in the world, with a blow energy exceeding 7,500 kJ.
  • Continuous power: drive piles with 100% energy capacity
  • Unleash up to 120% power for challenging conditions.

SW-series: environmentally conscious innovation
The SW-series, also known as Waterhammers, represents a leap forward in sustainable piling technology.

  • Eco-friendly operation: using fresh or salt water instead of hydraulic oil, these hammers minimize environmental impact.
  • Deep-water capability: engineered for depths of up to 2000 meters, they excel in underwater piling for projects that push technological boundaries.

Advantages of the Hydrohammer

Developed for offshore wind installations, the IQ-series can drive piles continuously with a 100% energy capacity, or, depending on soil conditions, can be boosted to achieve the maximum power of 120% over a certain period of time. By regulating energy during pile driving to match the conditions on-site, the IQ-series offers an intelligent approach that optimises pile driving for a more efficient and precise installation, guaranteeing foundation stability.

The powerful hydraulic hammers from the IQ-series can also be combined with PULSE, for an efficient and environmentally-friendly installation with reduced noise, pile fatigue and operating costs.

Frequently asked questions about our Hydrohammer

What is the Hydrohammer® and which applications is it used for?

The Hydrohammer® is IQIP’s range of hydraulic impact hammers designed for onshore and offshore pile installation. The product family includes the IQ-series, S-series, and SW-series, covering applications in offshore wind, oil & gas, civil construction, and marine, coastal and civil infrastructure. Hydrohammers are used to install monopiles, jacket foundations, conductors, mooring piles, sheet piles, H-beams, combi walls, and other steel foundation structures. It’s impressive technology can even make it work on the moon!

Each Hydrohammer® series is designed for specific project requirements and used by all renown contractors:

  • IQ-series: Developed for large offshore wind foundations and XXL monopiles, offering intelligent energy control and blow energies exceeding 7,500 kJ.
  • S-series: A versatile and proven hydraulic hammer range used worldwide for more than 40 years in offshore, oil & gas, and marine, coastal and civil projects.
  • SW-series (Waterhammer): Uses fresh or salt water instead of hydraulic oil, eliminating the risk of hydraulic oil spills and making it ideal for environmentally sensitive and (ultra) deep-water operations.

Hydrohammer® technology has been successfully used worldwide since the early 1980s and has installed more than 5.5 million piles globally and that number is growing every day. The hammers are engineered for harsh offshore and onshore environments and are known for their robust design, unparalleled low downtime, high operational availability (>97%), and comprehensive performance monitoring. This proven track record has made Hydrohammer® a benchmark in the industry for reliable pile installation.

The Hydrohammer® allows operators to optimize driving energy according to actual soil conditions and project requirements. The IQ-series can operate continuously at 100% energy capacity and temporarily boost output to 120% when higher driving energy is required. It has always brought piles to final penetration. This intelligent energy management improves penetration rates, reduces installation time, and helps achieve target pile depth efficiently while maintaining foundation integrity.

Yes. The Hydrohammer® portfolio supports multiple environmental initiatives. The IQ-series is compatible with PULSE® technology, which extends the hammer impact duration to reduce underwater noise, pile fatigue, and environmental disturbance. For projects where eliminating hydraulic oil risks is a priority, the SW-series Waterhammer uses fresh or salt water as its operating medium instead of hydraulic oil, providing an environmentally responsible piling solution.

The Hydrohammer® range includes solutions from 30 kJ up to more than 7,500 kJ of blow energy. This is unique and the Hydrohammer results are unprecedented by any other piling company in the world. At the top of the range, the Hydrohammer® IQ8 is currently IQIP’s most powerful hydraulic impact hammer and is specifically designed for the installation of the largest offshore wind monopiles in challenging soil conditions.
