On TP-less monopiles, there’s no transition piece to carry the secondary steel. Anode cages, boat landings, external ladders, internal platforms and external concrete platforms are all installed offshore, after the monopile is in place.
IQIP’s Secondary Steel Installation Equipment is custom-built for exactly that job. Each tool installs a specific component, safely and accurately, straight from the installation vessel onto the pre-installed monopile.
Depending on the project configuration, a Storage Tower Lifting Tool with center of gravity compensation can be used alongside a Combi Lifting Tool for fast, safe and precise lifting.
Every step was tested before going offshore. IQIP completed the load tests and functional acceptance tests for the equipment. A full-scale mock-up test at the Port of Tyne in the UK followed, where every component performed as intended.
Secondary steel is the steel on a wind turbine foundation that isn’t part of its main load-bearing structure. These parts let people reach and work on the turbine safely, and protect the foundation over its lifetime: boat landings and ladders for access, platforms to work from, and anode cages that protect the steel against corrosion.
