More than pile driving

Raked or horizontal

Pipes and piles are typically driven vertically, but specific projects might require raked or horizontal driving. Hydrohammer’s unique design,  relatively light weight, and hydraulically driven, gas-accelerated ram weight, allow it to operate at any angle – even fully horizontally.

Rock breaking

A specially designed chisel set transforms the Hydrohammer® into a highly efficient rock breaker. Deliver the impact force required to break rock, cemented layers, concrete floors, and slabs.

Frequently asked questions about our S-series Hydrohammer

What is the S-series Hydrohammer® designed for?

The S-series hydrohammer is engineered for high-impact piling operations in coastal and civil infrastructure projects as well as offshore oil & gas. It delivers the power and reliability required for demanding environments, including jackets, sheet piles, combi walls, and heavy foundation structures.

The S-Series is ideal for:

  • Offshore oil & gas foundations (jackets, conductors, templates)
  • Coastal protection and marine infrastructure (quay walls, jetties, breakwaters)
  • Heavy civil piling projects requiring robust and consistent impact energy

The S-Series is ideal for:

  • Offshore oil & gas foundations (jackets, conductors, templates)
  • Coastal protection and marine infrastructure (quay walls, jetties, breakwaters)
  • Heavy civil piling projects requiring robust and consistent impact energy

With optimised energy transfer and durable design, this impact hammer can work all year round. On top of that the S-Series ensures fast penetration and minimal downtime—reducing installation time and overall project cost.

The S-series offers proven reliability, high uptime, and flexibility across multiple markets—making it a trusted solution for contractors working in offshore energy, marine construction, and civil engineering.

Combining the S-Series hydrohammer with a F-series or Z-series vibro hammer offers an optimised installation approach that maximises efficiency across varying soil conditions. The vibro hammer enables rapid initial penetration in suitable soils, while the S-series delivers the high-impact energy required to drive piles to final depth and ensure bearing capacity.

A hydraulic impact hammer, such as the Hydrohammer is used to drive piles into the ground by generating controlled, high-energy impacts. It works by lifting a heavy steel ram using hydraulic pressure and then releasing it to strike the pile.

This process consists of three steps:

  • Hydraulic lifting: The ram is raised to a predefined height, determining the impact energy
  • Controlled impact: The ram is released, striking the pile and transferring energy into the soil
  • Repeat cycle: The process repeats at a controlled blow rate

Modern hydraulic hammers allow precise control over:

  • Impact energy
  • Blow frequency
  • Energy transfer efficiency

This makes them ideal for offshore wind foundations, oil & gas structures, and civil piling projects, where accuracy and performance are critical.

The key difference between a drop hammer and a hydraulic hammer lies in control, efficiency, and suitability for modern projects.

Drop Hammer

  • Operates using gravity only
  • Limited control over energy and blow rate
  • Lower efficiency and consistency
  • Typically used for smaller or simpler projects

Hydraulic Impact Hammer (Hydrohammer®)

  • Uses hydraulic power to control lifting and release
  • Adjustable impact energy and blow frequency
  • Higher efficiency and faster installation
  • Suitable for large-diameter piles and offshore applications

As a result, hydraulic hammers are the preferred solution for offshore wind, oil & gas, and heavy civil infrastructure, where performance and precision are essential. Fun fact: the Hydrohammer® can even work on the moon!
