Frequently asked questions about the F-series Vibro Hammer

What is a vibro hammer used for?

The F-series and Z-series are versatile vibratory piling hammers used for installing and extracting piles in offshore and onshore environments, including sheet piles, combi walls and tubular foundations.

Vibratory piling offers faster installation, lower noise emissions, and reduced environmental impact compared to traditional impact hammering—especially in suitable soil conditions.

The F-Series excels in granular soils such as sand, where vibration reduces soil resistance and enables efficient pile penetration. But it can also be used in many other soil types.

Yes, the F-series is ideal for both pile driving and extraction, making it perfect for temporary works and decommissioning projects.

Its adaptable configuration supports a wide range of pile types and project requirements, offering maximum operational flexibility across industries.

IQIP provides both S-series hydrohammers and F-series or Z-series vibro hammers as part of a fully integrated equipment portfolio. This allows contractors to deploy the right technology at each stage of the installation process, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and project outcomes.

While vibro hammers offer speed and efficiency, there are some limitations depending on project conditions:

  • Reduced effectiveness in hard soils or rock
  • Limited ability to achieve final bearing capacity without impact driving
  • Potential for ground vibrations affecting nearby structures
  • Less suitable for very large or deep foundations without support from impact hammers

For this reason, vibratory hammers are often combined with hydraulic impact hammers, such as Hydrohammers® to complete the installation and ensure required pile capacity.

The achievable depth depends on soil conditions, pile type, and equipment size, but vibro hammers can typically install piles to significant depths in suitable soils.

In optimal conditions (e.g. sand), vibro hammers such as IQIP’s F-series or Z-series can:

  • Drive piles to tens of metres deep
  • Achieve rapid penetration during the initial installation phase

For deeper or more demanding installations, vibro driving is often used for initial penetration, followed by an impact hammer to reach final depth and capacity.

Yes, IQIP’s vibro hammers are commonly used underwater and in offshore environments. They are highly suitable for marine operations because:

  • They operate effectively below sea level
  • They produce lower noise levels compared to impact piling
  • They enable efficient installation in nearshore and offshore conditions

This makes them a preferred solution for marine construction, offshore wind support works, and coastal infrastructure projects.
