WHAT IS PULSE?

ADD-ON TO THE STANDARD HAMMER

PULSE®, which is an add-on to the Hydrohammer®, is positioned between pile driving hammer and sleeve and dampens the impact and noise with two hydraulic pistons. The volume in between the pistons can be filled with liquid which controls the impact characteristic reducing noise at the source. Resulting in less noise affecting marine life.

MITIGATE NOISE SMARTER WITH PULSE

Pulse is a dampening system (add-on) that will be positioned between a hydraulic hammer (Hydrohammer) and its sleeve. It reduces noise significantly at the source and it creates an environmentally friendly installation. PULSE has been nominated for the Offshore Energy Awards 2019 in the category: Best innovation.

WHY PULSE?

ENERGY EFFICIENT AND ADAPTABLE

Due to its placement, PULSE can easily be combined with other underwater noise mitigating measures. One such is IQIP’s Integrated Monopile Installer, which directly mitigates noise by shielding the pile with a double-walled steel tube into which a bubble curtain can be fed. In most cases, the combination of those two systems would eliminate the need for a Big Bubble Curtain (BBC).

SECURE INSTALLATION

The liquid between the pistons can be drained to transform the system into a conventional Hydrohammer. A PULSE system without any liquid in the volume between the top and bottom piston corresponds to PULSE in zero-mode while the maximum mode features a fully filled liquid volume. This means the system eliminates the need for the safety margins a pre-set system would necessitate; instead, it can adjust to ensure maximum noise reduction and optimum drivability of the pile in different locations and soil strengths.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS AROUND PULSE

PULSE has been successfully deployed on several offshore wind installation projects, including Arcadis Ost 1, where full scale testing has demonstrated its effectiveness. In the future IQIP sees the PULSE system developed in sizes compatible with all IQIP hammers in the Offshore Wind, Oil & Gas and Coastal & Civil Market. PULSE is one of several IQIP products that further an environmentally safe, legally compliant, and economically sound pile installation. Piling for offshore installations in Europe is restricted by precautionary regulations for underwater noise and its effect on sea life. This limitation during construction increases the cost price. IQIP has found a way for you to enlarge your installation window and reduce costs with innovative technology for effective noise mitigation.
