IQIP recently supplied DEME Infra with a tailored S120 Hydrohammer spread, including a custom-designed sleeve, to support the installation of MV piles at BASF’s site in Antwerp Harbor. BASF, as Belgium’s largest chemical production center, plays a crucial role in this vision, acting as a cornerstone of the port’s chemical industry and driving both economic growth and innovation in the region.
Specialized Solution for Angled Pile Driving
DEME Infra’s work at BASF Antwerp involves deepening the harbor and reinforcing retaining walls, a vital part of BASF’s infrastructure expansion. For this project, the custom S120 Hydrohammer spread, fitted with a unique sleeve, was specially designed for MV piles and enables angled pile driving—a challenging requirement for harbor construction.
Optimal for MV Piles
The MV piles used in this project are high-strength displacement piles constructed from steel and encased in grout, a combination that ensures maximum stability and durability. These piles are created by driving a steel profile or pipe into the ground while injecting grout, which strengthens the surrounding soil and creates a robust foundation. For the BASF Antwerp project, the IQIP S120 Hydrohammer spread—with its custom-designed sleeve—is perfectly suited for these MV piles, enabling reliable and precise pile driving, even at an angle. Known for its rugged design and reliability in nearshore applications, the S120 Hydrohammer offers exceptional energy transfer and control, optimizing the installation process and reducing environmental impact.
Through this project, IQIP proudly contributes to the port’s sustainable growth, reinforcing BASF Antwerp’s infrastructure and strengthening the harbor as a key player in the global industrial landscape.
