At IQIP, we're proud to play a fundamental role in advancing offshore wind projects around the world. A great example is the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms, under development by Equinor and Polenergia in the Polish Baltic Sea, where a major milestone has recently been achieved with the successful completion of the foundation installation campaign across both projects.

Along the industrial quays of the Port of Rotterdam, the art of heavy-lift hoisting once again took centre stage.

Offshore monopile installation has always been accompanied by noise — but with noise comes emissions. Traditional offshore piling projects often rely on (enhanced) double Big Bubble Curtains (e/dBBCs) — large acoustic abatement systems designed to protect marine life. Effective, yes — but also highly energy intensive.

After the inshore demonstration at Maasvlakte 2, the EQ-Piling system returned to our yard in Sliedrecht — where work on adjustments and improvements resumed almost immediately, preparing it for the next phase towards the commercialisation of EQ-Piling as a low-noise, low-CO2 installation method.

For the EQ-Piling Pilot, we secured a full-scale monopile foundation for installation at a water depth of 40 meters.

For years, conventional impact piling has been the industry standard for driving large monopiles to the required depth. This is effective, but the inevitable high underwater noise levels can harm marine life and make compliance with environmental regulations increasingly challenging.

A major milestone reached at the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm: all 54 monopile foundations have been successfully installed in the North Sea off the Scottish coast.

Cadeler has successfully completed the mock‑up trials for the secondary steel installation and commissioning activities at the Port of Tyne in the north‑east of England. Supported by IQIP and several project partners, the trials mark an important milestone ahead of offshore construction at Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm.

Monopile foundations are the dominant foundation type used in offshore wind turbines. The bolted L-flange connection, where the flange forms an L-shape with the pile wall, has become the most used method for joining monopiles and transition pieces (TP), or in TP-less configurations for the monopiles with the turbine tower. Its mechanical reliability and suitability for the current large-diameter piles make it the preferred choice in modern offshore wind farm construction.
